fly fish in 2006 and has authored and co-authored nine books to date.
Alen initiated the vision for the Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians and has recruited ongoing support (pledges, volunteer hours, and content initiatives) from all southeastern states.

Join Matt Hayes as he shares his professional framework for identifying and “breaking down” delayed harvest waters. Matt will move beyond the basics, teaching you how to read the water more effectively to increase your catch rate. The session will also feature an in-depth look at the technical side of the sport, covering everything from the fundamentals to advanced European Nymphing techniques.
Meet Matt Hayes, Owner of Lazy Dog Outfitters. A life lived on the water has shaped Matt’s deep-rooted passion for the outdoors. Growing up on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York, Matt spent his youth chasing smallmouth bass—a spark that ignited a lifelong obsession. After moving to Statesville in the late 90s, he discovered fly fishing in high school, transforming a hobby into a calling.
